The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, along with a Computer Operator posted in the Superintendent’s office, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving the revocation of a Show Cause Notice.

According to the press release issued by the CBI on May 7, 2026, the agency registered the case on May 6, 2026 against the accused Computer Operator working in the office of the Superintendent, CGST Office, Range-I, Meerut. The case was registered based on allegations that the accused demanded illegal gratification of ₹6,000 on behalf of the CGST Superintendent for revoking a Show Cause Notice issued to the complainant.

The CBI stated that after receiving the complaint, it laid a trap and allegedly caught the Computer Operator red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount on behalf of the CGST Superintendent, Meerut.

Following the trap proceedings, both the CGST Superintendent and the Computer Operator were arrested by the investigating agency.

The case highlights the continuing anti-corruption crackdown involving public servants and officials working in indirect tax administration. The alleged bribery demand was reportedly linked to official action concerning a Show Cause Notice issued under the GST framework.

The CBI has stated that the investigation in the matter is continuing.
