The Supreme Court  disposed of a petition filed by Ms. Bhanvi Kumari Singh, wife of Shri Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, challenging the stay granted by the High Court on the summoning order in a domestic violence case.

After considering the submissions by Adv. Mr Arvind Kumar Shukla, the Supreme Court directed the High Court to decide the pending matter expeditiously, preferably within a period of four months. The Court further clarified that other reliefs, including claims relating to interim maintenance and connected issues, may be pressed before the appropriate forum at the relevant stage of proceedings.

The domestic violence proceedings were initiated by Ms. Bhanvi Kumari Singh against Shri Raja Bhaiya, a former Minister in the State of Uttar Pradesh. The case arises from allegations of severe physical abuse, which are stated to have resulted in grievous injuries to the complainant. The matter is presently at the stage where a charge sheet has been filed by the police, including offences under Section 498-A of the Indian Penal Code and other allied provisions.

It was also brought to the Court’s attention that no financial support has been extended to the wife and daughters, despite substantial financial transactions allegedly made in favour of family members during the pendency of proceedings.

Arguments were addressed by Adv. Mr Arvind Kumar Shukla  today, and the matter has been reserved for orders by the concerned court, which are scheduled to be pronounced on 3 February 2026.
