The Directorate General Of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has extended the “free” import policy for Tur (pigeon peas) until March 31, 2027. The decision was notified by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The notification, issued on March 31, 2026, amends the import conditions under the ITC (HS) 2022 Schedule-I framework. Previously, the import of Tur under ITC (HS) Code 07136000 was allowed freely only up to March 31, 2026. With the latest amendment, this deadline has now been extended by one year, allowing unrestricted imports until March 31, 2027.

The policy has been issued under the powers conferred by the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, read with relevant provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), 2023. The extension reflects the government’s continued focus on maintaining buffer stock levels and curbing price volatility in essential food commodities, particularly pulses, which are a key component of the Indian diet.

According to the notification, the import condition remains unchanged except for the timeline extension, meaning that traders and importers can continue to import Tur without quantitative restrictions or licensing requirements during this period.
