The Customs Department at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport) has seized 1,329 grams of gold valued at ₹1,98,34,740 from two Myanmar nationals in a case of alleged smuggling detected during preventive checks at Terminal-3.

According to officials, the operation was carried out by the Airport Customs Preventive Wing during the Preventive Shift ‘D’ on February 23, 2026. The two male passengers had arrived from Yangon (RGN) to New Delhi on flight 8M620 on the same day.

The passengers were intercepted while attempting to cross the Green Channel at the International Arrival Hall of T-3, which is meant for travelers not carrying dutiable goods. Based on suspicion, Customs officers subjected them to detailed questioning and examination.

During the subsequent personal search and baggage screening, both passengers reportedly admitted to having concealed gold bars inside their bodies. Officials stated that each passenger had concealed four rectangular-shaped gold bars internally.

Following due procedure, a total of eight gold bars were recovered — four from each passenger. The net weight of the seized gold was recorded at 1,329 grams.

The recovered gold was appraised and assigned a tariff value of ₹1,98,34,740 (Rupees One Crore Ninety Eight Lakh Thirty Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Only).

Customs authorities have booked a case of smuggling under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the intended recipient of the contraband and to determine whether the passengers were acting independently or as part of a larger syndicate.

Officials reiterated that strict surveillance and profiling at IGI Airport continue to prevent illegal import of gold and other contraband through concealment methods.
