CBIC Clarifies Effective Date for Postal Imports Regulations, 2025

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued the corrigendum and clarified the effective date for Postal Imports Regulations, 2025.

The Postal Imports Regulations, 2025 shall not from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette and it will be effective from the date to be notified.

“Government of India, Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) Notification No. 18/2025- (N.T.), dated 28th March, 2025, published under G.S.R. 1516(E), dated 28th March, 2025, in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii), on page 1, in line 13, for the words “from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette”, the words “They shall come into force with effect from the date to be notified.” shall be read,” the notification read.

Notification No. 18/2025 dated March 28, 2025, notifies the Postal Imports Regulations, 2025. The notification outlines regulations for assessing and clearing goods imported through foreign post offices, excluding certain goods like animals, perishables, and precious stones. It details procedures for entry, inspection, assessment, clearance, disposal of undelivered goods, and record retention, assigning responsibilities to postal authorities, importers, and their agents.
