As the July 31 deadline for filing income tax returns approached, several taxpayers reported technical glitches on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal, particularly while submitting ITR-3 returns.

One such user, Anjali Pamnani, shared a screenshot on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), highlighting a validation error message received during submission. The error stated, “Due to some technical error not able to process your request. Please try again. If error persists quote error number ITD-EXEC2003 when you contact customer care for quick resolution.”

The error appears to be a backend processing failure preventing users from completing their return filing process, even after successfully entering all required data.

With mounting frustration, many users reached out to the official handle of the Income Tax Department, requesting immediate support. Some have questioned whether they’ll be penalized for delayed filings due to these system-level issues.

Meanwhile, a social media reply claimed that the department has extended the filing deadline from July 31 to September 15, 2025 — though no official notification confirming this has yet been issued on the Income Tax Department’s website or press release portal as of this report.

Experts’ Advice:
Tax professionals advise users facing this issue to:

  • Take a screenshot of the error message and timestamp.
  • Quote the error code (ITD-EXEC2003) when contacting support.
  • Try using the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge browsers.
  • Check for updates or announcements on www.incometax.gov.in.

Given the recurring technical issues over the years around filing deadlines, taxpayers and professionals alike are urging the government to build more resilient infrastructure to handle peak traffic loads.
