A woman who once took on notorious encroachers is now fighting to save her own home. Former Indian Revenue Service officer Parveen Talha is facing a serious threat to her house.

Parveen Talha served in the Indian Revenue Service until 2004. Later, she was a member of the Union Public Service Commission until 2009. She was the first Muslim woman to serve as a UPSC member. She has also authored a coffee table book on Lucknow and was honored with the Padma Shri in 2014.

Talha’s residence, located in Gomti Nagar, has reportedly been weakened after a builder carried out deep excavation—several feet down—on the adjoining plot. This digging has caused cracks in the foundation of her home, forcing her to support parts of the structure with temporary wooden and bamboo props.

Talha has alleged that the builder began digging without constructing a proper retaining wall, which is mandatory to prevent damage to neighboring properties. Due to the excavation, the soil beneath her house has shifted, making the structure unstable.

She further stated that despite filing complaints with the municipal authorities and the Lucknow Development Authority, no effective action has been taken so far.

Talha has demanded that the construction work be stopped immediately. She emphasized that if excavation is carried out, all safety norms must be followed. She has urged authorities to halt the ongoing construction and take strict action against the builder.
