The Society for Tax Analysis & Research (STAR) is set to host GYANOTSAV 2026, a two-day national knowledge conclave on taxation and litigation, on January 10 and 11, 2026, bringing together judges, tribunal members, senior advocates, chartered accountants and tax professionals from across the country.

The event will be inaugurated by Justice Bhargav D. Karia, Judge of the Gujarat High Court, as the Chief Guest, while Adv. Rajesh Jain, Judicial Member of the GST Appellate Tribunal, will grace the occasion as Guest of Honour.

GYANOTSAV 2026 aims to provide in-depth, practice-oriented insights into the functioning of the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), evolving litigation strategies, and emerging legal challenges across GST, Income Tax, PMLA and IBC.

Day 1: Focus on GSTAT Practice and Drafting Skills

The first day will open with a session on the importance of pleadings and cross-objections in GST Appellate Tribunal practice, delivered by Sr. Adv. (CA) V. Raghuraman. This will be followed by a detailed walkthrough of GSTAT Rules and key procedural provisions by Adv. (CA) Bimal Jain.

Beyond core tax litigation, the programme also includes sessions on living a medicine-free life, developing KPO (foreign accounting) practices in India, and a high-level panel discussion on arrest and proceedings under PMLA, IBC, GST and Income Tax laws.

The day will conclude with focused sessions on the dos and don’ts of drafting appeals and effective presentation before the GST Appellate Tribunal, aimed at young and mid-level professionals.

Day 2: Appeals, Jurisdiction and Technology

The second day will delve into advanced appellate concepts, including the relevance of statements given before authorities in appeals, the transition from the Income Tax Act, 1961 to the Income Tax Act, 2025, and the distinction between appellate and writ jurisdiction.

A dedicated session will address statements of facts versus grounds of appeal, additional grounds and strategic preparations for GSTAT. Recognising the changing face of litigation, the conclave will also feature a session on using Artificial Intelligence in litigation practice.

The programme will culminate in a panel discussion on GST Appellate Tribunal litigation, featuring experienced advocates and chartered accountants actively engaged in GST disputes across India.

National Moot Tribunal Competition

A key highlight of GYANOTSAV 2026 is the National Moot Tribunal Competition, offering law and tax students an opportunity to engage with real-world GST appellate issues. Winning teams will receive cash prizes of ₹21,000, ₹15,000 and ₹11,000 for first, second and third positions respectively.

Participation and Registration

The participation fee is ₹2,950 (inclusive of GST) for registrations completed on or before December 31, 2025, and ₹3,540 (inclusive of GST) for registrations thereafter.
