“Thunaivan” Trade Facilitation Portal Inaugurated at Tiruppur to Boost Exporters’ Ease of Business
In a significant move to enhance trade facilitation and streamline export procedures, Shri M.K. Singh, Member (Customs), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), inaugurated the “Thunaivan” trade facilitation portal today in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. The event also witnessed the esteemed presence of Padmashree Dr. A. Shaktivel, Vice Chairman, Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).
Developed by AEPC, Thunaivan is a pioneering public-private initiative crafted specifically to support exporters from the Tiruppur cluster—one of India’s largest textile hubs. The portal aims to improve the ease of doing business by enabling seamless interaction between trade stakeholders and Customs authorities, ensuring swift cargo clearances and timely resolution of grievances.
In addition to the digital platform, an Exporters’ Trade Facilitation Centre was also inaugurated by Shri M.K. Singh at the Inland Container Depot (ICD), Chettipalayam, Tiruppur. The facilitation centre, operating under the jurisdiction of the Trichy Customs (Preventive) Zone, will serve as a physical one-stop support point offering hand-holding assistance to exporters.
This dual initiative—both digital and on-ground—will:
- Provide exporters with guidance on customs processes,
- Offer a dedicated grievance redressal mechanism,
- Disseminate information through FAQs and circulars,
- Escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate authorities,
- Foster a proactive compliance environment in the export sector.
Speaking at the launch, Shri Singh highlighted the government’s commitment to enabling a robust export ecosystem and reaffirmed CBIC’s focus on facilitating legitimate trade while ensuring compliance.
The launch of Thunaivan is expected to significantly enhance the operational efficiency of Tiruppur’s export industry and stands as a model of collaborative governance between the public and private sectors.
