Supreme Court Announces Partial Working Schedule for Summer 2025: Bench Roster and Key Dates Released

New Delhi, May 16, 2025 — The Supreme Court of India has officially released its schedule for partial court working days during the upcoming summer recess, effective from Monday, May 26, 2025, to Sunday, July 13, 2025, with regular court functioning resuming on July 14, 2025.

In accordance with Rule 4 of Order II of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013 (as amended), the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India has constituted specific Vacation Benches to hear urgent matters during this period.

Vacation Bench Schedule: Key Highlights

The notification details weekly assignments of Hon’ble Justices to various benches. Here’s the complete breakdown of benches by week:

May 26 – June 1, 2025:

  • Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India and Justice Augustine George Masih
  • Justice Surya Kant and Justice Dipankar Datta
  • Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sanjay Kumar
  • Justice J.K. Maheshwari and Justice Aravind Kumar
  • Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma

June 2 – June 8, 2025:

Registry Working Hours

As per the official notice issued by Registrar T.I. Rajput, the Supreme Court Registry will remain open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM for all officers and staff. Group-C (non-clerical) staff will observe duty hours from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, excluding Saturdays (other than July 12, 2025), Sundays, and public holidays, when the registry will remain closed.

The Supreme Court’s vacation bench system ensures that urgent and time-sensitive matters—including bail hearings, stay applications, and other emergency petitions—are heard without delay. Litigants and legal professionals are advised to review the weekly bench assignments closely when scheduling appearances or filings during this period.
