The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has formally requested the live streaming of the high-profile case W.P.(C) No. 269/2025 – Asaduddin Owaisi vs Union of India, pertaining to the Waqf Board, following severe overcrowding in Court No. 1 of the Supreme Court of India on April 16, 2025.

According to a letter addressed to Mr. H. S. Jaggi, Registrar (Technology) of the Supreme Court, the SCBA highlighted that the courtroom was “overcrowded leaving no space to sit or stand,” which led to “suffocation/claustrophobia among the Members.” Disturbingly, two advocates fainted inside the courtroom due to the congestion.

The letter, signed by Vikrant Yadav, Honorary Secretary of SCBA, emphasized the need for live-streaming proceedings of the case whenever it is listed, to mitigate health risks, reduce courtroom crowding, and ensure safe access to justice.

“You are therefore requested to direct the concerned authorities to provide the live streaming link to SCBA whenever this case is listed,” the letter stated.

The plea for live streaming aligns with the Supreme Court’s push for greater transparency and accessibility in judicial proceedings. The Wakf Board case, involving public interest and significant constitutional questions, has drawn considerable attention from legal practitioners, media, and civil society.

The SCBA’s request is expected to set a precedent for handling overcrowded court hearings and may pave the way for broader adoption of live streaming in sensitive and high-demand cases.
