Centre Promotes 10 IRS (Customs & Indirect Taxes) Officers to Principal Commissioner Rank

The Central Government has promoted 10 senior officers of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) (Customs & Indirect Taxes)to the prestigious rank of Principal Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes in Level-15 (HAG) of the Pay Matrix.

The promotions were notified by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) under Office Order No. 209/2025, issued by the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, with the approval of the President of India.

Ad-Hoc Promotions Against Panel Year 2025

Seven officers have been empanelled and promoted on an ad-hoc basis against the panel year 2025, with effect from the date they assume charge of the promotional post. Until regular postings are approved, these officers will continue to hold charge on an in-situ (as is where is) basis.

Regularisation of Earlier Ad-Hoc Promotions

In continuation of Office Order No. 111/2025 dated June 30, 2025, three officers who were earlier promoted on an ad-hoc basis have now been granted regular promotion to the grade of Principal Commissioner, with effect from the date they originally assumed charge.

Deputation and Compliance Conditions

The order clarifies that officers currently on deputation will be eligible for promotion only upon return to their parent cadre and assumption of charge. In cases where officers wish to continue on ex-cadre posts, proposals for proforma promotion may be forwarded to the Board as per existing instructions.

All concerned formations have been directed to submit compliance reports regarding joining immediately to the CBIC.
