These Four Senior IRS Officers to Principal Commissioner Rank

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has notified the promotion of 4 officers namely Paul Rajendra Lakra, Ramavath Srinivasa Naik, M.R.R. Reddy and Sandeep M.S. Puri to the post of Chief Commissioner.

The President has approved the empanelment and promotion of four senior officers to the grade of Chief Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) issued by the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

Paul Rajendra Lakra and Ramavath Srinivasa Naik, both from the 1992 batch, have been promoted on regular basis to Level 16 of the Pay Matrix (HAG+) with effect from the date they assume charge of the post, but not later than July 1, 2025.

In addition, the order states that M.R.R. Reddy and Sandeep M.S. Puri, both from the 1993 batch, have been promoted on ad-hoc basis to the same grade. However, it is clarified that this ad-hoc promotion will not be counted for seniority or as qualifying service for further promotion. The government also reserves the right to revert them to their earlier posts.

Until their regular postings are finalized by the Competent Authority, all four officers shall assume the charge of their new positions on in situ basis.

Further, in continuation of Office Order No. 94/2025 dated June 2, 2025, it has also been conveyed that Ms. V. Sangeeta and S. Thirunavukkarasu, both from the 1992 batch and earlier promoted on an ad-hoc basis, have now been promoted on regular basis to the Chief Commissioner grade against the 2025 panel year.

The officers are expected to report their joining, and compliance reports must be sent to the Board immediately. The Department has indicated that a Hindi version of the order will be released soon.
