The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is expected to introduce a major change to its online portal by replacing email ID-based user IDs with Permanent Account Number (PAN)-based user IDs.

According to internal information available, the MCA is preparing to migrate its user authentication framework from the existing email ID-based login system to a PAN-linked user ID mechanism. The change is expected to be implemented on the MCA portal in the near future, although an official announcement and rollout timeline are still awaited.

The proposed reform is being viewed as a major improvement for chartered accountants, company secretaries, cost accountants, advocates, insolvency professionals, and other stakeholders who regularly interact with the MCA portal for company filings, LLP compliances, incorporation, annual returns, and other statutory filings.

For years, professionals have sought a PAN-based identification system, arguing that email-based user IDs often led to operational challenges. Changes in email addresses, multiple user accounts, and account management issues frequently created difficulties in accessing the portal and maintaining continuity of user credentials. Since PAN is a permanent and unique identifier, the proposed shift is expected to provide greater consistency and reduce such complications.

Industry experts believe the move could also strengthen identity verification and improve integration with other government databases, thereby enhancing the overall security and reliability of MCA’s digital services. A PAN-based login system may further simplify user management and reduce instances of duplicate or multiple accounts.

The anticipated update comes as the MCA continues its broader digital transformation initiatives to modernize corporate compliance infrastructure and improve the user experience on its online platform. In recent years, the Ministry has undertaken several technological upgrades to facilitate electronic filings and strengthen corporate governance through digital processes.

While the proposed change has been welcomed by professionals, users are awaiting detailed implementation guidelines from the MCA. These are expected to clarify the migration process for existing accounts, transitional arrangements, and any actions required from registered users before the new system becomes operational.

An official notification from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs is expected to provide further clarity on the rollout schedule and procedural aspects of the PAN-based login system. Until then, stakeholders are advised to await formal instructions before making any changes to their existing MCA accounts.
