Dr. Mayank Sharma has officially assumed charge as the new Financial Advisor (Defence Services) with effect from August 01, 2025. A distinguished 1989-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), Dr. Sharma brings with him more than three decades of rich administrative and financial experience in various capacities across the Government of India and international forums.

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Sharma served as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), the apex authority in the defence accounting setup. His leadership in that role was marked by significant strides in defence financial reforms, automation, and fiscal prudence in armed forces expenditure.

Over his expansive career, Dr. Sharma has held several senior positions including Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. His diplomatic and international exposure includes serving as the Alternate Permanent Representative of India at multiple United Nations bodies such as the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).

He also represented India at the International Anti-Corruption Academy and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, enhancing India’s engagement on issues related to governance, law enforcement, and international cooperation.

Back home, Dr. Sharma served as Additional Commissioner in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, where he played a critical role in urban governance and financial administration. His notable contributions at AIIMS Delhi as Deputy Director (Administration) and Senior Financial Advisor were instrumental in strengthening institutional financial governance at one of India’s premier healthcare institutions.

As he takes on the role of Financial Advisor (Defence Services), Dr. Sharma is expected to continue steering financial efficiency and accountability in India’s defence expenditure — a crucial portfolio that ensures optimal resource utilization for national security.
