Vivek Chaturvedi is currently serving as Principal Director General, Directorate General of Vigilance, and also holds the position of Chief Vigilance Officer, CBIC. His elevation to the CBIC Board comes against a vacancy that arose on September 1, 2025.

The appointment has been formally communicated by Shri Kundan Nath, Under Secretary (EO.SM-II), on behalf of the Government of India. The notification was forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the Department of Revenue.

The CBIC, functioning under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, is the apex body responsible for administering India’s indirect tax policy, including Goods and Services Tax (GST), Customs, Central Excise, and Narcotics. With this appointment, Chaturvedi joins the top leadership of CBIC at a time when the institution is navigating crucial reforms and addressing compliance challenges.

This appointment highlights the government’s emphasis on strengthening the leadership at CBIC, particularly by entrusting key responsibilities to officers with proven expertise in vigilance, compliance, and enforcement.
