6 Senior IRS Officers Promoted as Principal Chief Commissioners and Principal Director Generals in CBIC

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, has issued Office Order No. 158/2025, announcing the empanelment and promotion of six senior Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) officers to the post of Principal Chief Commissioner / Principal Director General.

The promotion places these officers in Level 17 of the Pay Matrix (Apex Scale) with effect from the date they assume charge of their new posts. The appointments have been approved by the President of India and will remain effective until further orders.

According to the office order, the regular posting of these officers will be decided in due course with the approval of the competent authority. Until then, they will continue to hold charge on an “in situ” (as is where is) basis.

The order further clarifies that any officer currently on deputation will be promoted upon return to the cadre.

The compliance report regarding the joining of the officers is to be sent to the Board immediately, with copies endorsed to the ADG (HRM-II), DGHRD. A Hindi version of the order will follow in due course.
