InterGlobe Aviation Limited, operating India’s largest airline IndiGo, has formally requested additional time from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to respond to the show cause notice issued on December 6, 2025, over recent flight disruptions across its network.

In a letter dated December 7, 2025, addressed to the DGCA and marked to the Director of Operations (FSD), IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers acknowledged receipt of the notice and stated that the airline requires more time to compile a detailed reply given the scale and complexity of its operations.

The DGCA’s notice sought an explanation within 24 hours regarding widespread operational delays that reportedly affected flights at multiple airports. IndiGo, while noting compliance with the acknowledgment timeline, has sought an extension till at least 1800 hours on December 8, 2025, or any other duration the regulator finds appropriate.

Elbers wrote that the airline has been facing “a multitude of unavoidable factors” contributing to the disruption and that a comprehensive response would necessitate additional preparation time. The communication emphasized that the airline is committed to cooperating with regulatory inquiries and to resolving concerns raised by the DGCA.

The disruptions, though not detailed in the letter, have triggered regulatory scrutiny given IndiGo’s dominant market share and its role in maintaining national aviation connectivity.

DGCA is expected to review the extension request before proceeding with further regulatory action. The aviation watchdog’s response will determine whether the airline receives extra time or faces immediate compliance obligations under the show cause mandate.

Further developments are expected as the regulator evaluates IndiGo’s explanation on the operational breakdown and mitigation steps being undertaken.
