In a significant tribute to Sikkim’s integration into the Indian Union, the Government of India has announced the release of a ₹50 commemorative coin marking “50 Glorious Years of Statehood – Sikkim.”

The Ministry of Finance, through a Gazette notification dated May 13, 2025, declared that the coin will be minted under the authority of the Central Government in accordance with the Coinage Act, 2011. The coin is a part of a special issue to celebrate Sikkim’s journey since becoming the 22nd state of India in 1975.

Key Features of the Coin:

  • Denomination: ₹50
  • Shape: Circular
  • Diameter: 44 millimeters
  • Weight: 40 grams
  • Metal Composition: 99.9% pure silver
  • Edge: 200 serrations

Design Details:

  • Obverse Side: Features the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar at the center with the words “सत्यमेव जयते” inscribed below. The word “भारत” appears in Devanagari on the left periphery, and “INDIA” in English on the right, along with the rupee symbol “₹” and the denomination “50.”
