The GSTAT Ranchi Bench has directed all its officers and staff to remain available on Sunday, June 28, 2026, to assist taxpayers and other stakeholders facing last-minute issues before the expiry of the appeal filing deadline.

The direction has been issued through Office Order No. 03/2026, dated June 27, 2026, by the Deputy Registrar of the GSTAT Ranchi Bench with the approval of the Hon’ble Vice President of the Bench.

Last Date for Appeals Nears

The office order notes that the last date for filing appeals before the GSTAT is June 30, 2026, and that the Tribunal has witnessed a substantial increase in the number of appeals being filed during the past few days as the deadline approaches.

Recognising the rush of litigants and professionals, the Bench has decided to extend administrative support to ensure that taxpayers are not deprived of the opportunity to file appeals due to technical or procedural difficulties.

Officers to Resolve Technical and Procedural Issues

Under the office order, all officers and staff of the GSTAT Ranchi Bench have been directed to remain available on Sunday, June 28, 2026, to provide assistance in resolving:

  • Last-minute filing difficulties;
  • Technical issues encountered during appeal filing;
  • Queries raised by taxpayers, appellants, advocates, chartered accountants, and other stakeholders; and
  • Any other issues connected with filing appeals before the Tribunal.

The order is intended to ensure that litigants are able to complete the filing process smoothly before the statutory deadline.

Sunday Deployment Treated as Official Duty

The office order further clarifies that the deployment of officers and staff on the designated Sunday shall be treated as official duty for all purposes, underscoring the Tribunal’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted assistance during the critical filing period.

Relief for Taxpayers and Professionals

The decision is expected to provide significant relief to taxpayers, tax professionals and legal practitioners who are working against the June 30 deadline. With many appeals being prepared and uploaded in the final days, availability of Tribunal officials can help resolve portal-related issues, documentation concerns and procedural queries that might otherwise delay filing.

The initiative also reflects the GSTAT’s proactive approach in ensuring access to justice and facilitating the smooth commencement of appellate proceedings under the GST regime.

Background

The GST Appellate Tribunal has recently become operational across various benches, and taxpayers have been filing appeals in large numbers against orders passed by GST authorities. As the first major limitation deadline approaches, the Ranchi Bench’s decision to keep its office functional even on a Sunday is expected to ease compliance pressures and help taxpayers avoid missing the statutory limitation period due to administrative or technical constraints.
