Gross GST Collections Rise 8.1% to ₹1.83 Lakh Crore in February 2026; Net Revenue Up 7.9%

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections continued their upward trajectory in February 2026, with gross revenues witnessing robust year-on-year growth. As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Finance, total gross GST revenue for February 2026 stood at ₹1,83,609 crore, marking an 8.1% increase over ₹1,69,779 crore collected in February 2025.

On a cumulative basis, gross GST revenue for the financial year 2025–26 (up to February) rose 8.3% to ₹20,27,033 crore as compared to ₹18,71,670 crore in the corresponding period of 2024–25.

The surge in import-related IGST collections significantly contributed to the overall rise, with gross import revenue growing 17.2% year-on-year in February.

Refunds and Net GST Revenue

Total refunds issued in February 2026 amounted to ₹22,595 crore, reflecting a 10.2% increase over ₹20,500 crore in February 2025. On a cumulative basis, refunds grew 18.1% during the current financial year.

After adjusting for refunds, total net GST revenue for February 2026 stood at ₹1,61,014 crore, registering a 7.9% growth compared to ₹1,49,278 crore in February 2025.

Compensation Cess

Compensation cess collections saw a sharp decline in February 2026. Net cess revenue stood at ₹5,063 crore compared to ₹13,481 crore in February 2025. The government clarified that compensation cess continues only as a transitory arrangement until the entire loan and interest liability are discharged.

State-level data shows varied performance across regions. Among major states, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu recorded substantial post-settlement SGST figures.

Maharashtra led cumulative post-settlement collections at ₹1,77,499 crore, followed by Uttar Pradesh (₹77,269 crore), Karnataka (₹79,691 crore), Gujarat (₹73,988 crore), and Tamil Nadu (₹71,236 crore).

GST Registrations

As of 28 February 2026, total GST registrations (GSTINs) stood at 93,38,028 compared to 68,42,804 in the previous year, reflecting steady expansion of the indirect tax base.
