In a significant administrative move, the Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, has issued Office Order announcing a major reshuffle of charge allocations among Members of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
The decision follows the appointment of Vivek Chaturvedi as Member, CBIC, with the approval of the Competent Authority. The reshuffle aims to optimize administrative efficiency and improve governance in key areas of indirect taxation and customs administration.
Key Appointments and Charge Allocations
- Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal continues in his role as Chairman of the CBIC, overseeing all Members and providing strategic leadership to the board.
- Shri Shashank Priya has been assigned as Member (GST, Central Excise & Service Tax). He is responsible for supervising key Directorates, including the Directorate General of Goods & Services Tax and Anti-Profiteering, along with several North Region Chief Commissioners in Jaipur, Chandigarh, Panchkula, Delhi, and Customs in Delhi.
- Shri Surjit Bhujabal, as Member (Customs), now supervises the Directorate General of Export Promotion, Valuation, Advance Rulings, Central Revenue Control Laboratories, and International Customs. His geographical focus includes the Central Region with oversight over Chief Commissioners in Lucknow, Meerut, Bhopal, and Nagpur.
- Smt. Aruna Narayan Gupta, Member (Administration & Vigilance), will manage the Directorate General of NACIN, Vigilance, Human Resource Development, and Performance Management. Her regional oversight includes key East Region locations such as Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, and Ranchi.
- Shri Mohan Kumar Singhi, as Member (Compliance Management), is tasked with overseeing the Directorate Generals of Revenue Intelligence, GST Intelligence, Analytics and Risk Management, Audit, and the Commissioner’s office (PAC). He will also manage Preventive Zones, including key Customs locations in Tiruchirappalli, Patna, Delhi, and Guwahati.
- Shri Yogendra Garg, Member (IT, Taxpayer Services & Technology), will supervise the Directorate Generals of Systems & Data Management, Taxpayer Services, and Logistics. His region of responsibility covers the West Region, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Mumbai, and Pune.
- Shri Vivek Chaturvedi, newly appointed Member (Tax Policy and Legal), takes charge of overseeing the Directorate General of Legal Affairs, the Settlement Commission, and Chief Commissioners across the South Region, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, and Visakhapatnam.
