Govt Promotes B.A.V. Srinivasa Rao, Lalit Prasad, Ranjit Kumar, Nasim Arshi, Yashodhan Arvind Wanage, and M.G. Thamizh Valavan to Principal Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes

In a recent office order issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), the Government of India has announced the empanelment and promotion of B.A.V. Srinivasa Rao, Lalit Prasad, Ranjit Kumar, Nasim Arshi, Yashodhan Arvind Wanage, and M.G. Thamizh Valavan to the position of Principal Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes in the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes). The promotions are categorized into ad-hoc and regular basis appointments.

Ad-Hoc Promotions

The following officers have been promoted to the grade of Principal Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes on an ad-hoc basis, effective from the date of assumption of charge:

  1. B.A.V. Srinivasa Rao (Emp. ID: 903/1995, DoB: 05.06.1970)
  2. Lalit Prasad (Emp. ID: 904/1995, DoB: 20.07.1966)
  3. Ranjit Kumar (Emp. ID: 905/1995, DoB: 02.10.1971) – Effective not before April 1, 2025

These ad-hoc promotions do not confer any right to continued officiation or regularization in the role. Additionally, this period will not count towards seniority or future promotions. The government retains the right to terminate these ad-hoc appointments and revert the officers to their previous posts.

Regular Promotions

In continuation of previous office orders dated January 31, 2025 (No.18/2025) and March 3, 2025 (No.46/2025), the following officers have been promoted on a regular basis to the same position:

  1. Shri Nasim Arshi (Emp. Code: 899, DoB: 21.02.1969)
  2. Shri Yashodhan Arvind Wanage (Emp. Code: 900, DoB: 02.11.1968)
  3. Shri M.G. Thamizh Valavan (Emp. Code: 901, DoB: 01.06.1967)

These officers have been confirmed in their roles from the date they assumed charge of the post while on an ad-hoc basis.

Posting & Compliance Measures

Until further decisions by the Competent Authority, all promoted officers—both ad-hoc and regular—will continue serving in their current positions on an in situ (as is where is) basis. Compliance reports regarding their joining status must be submitted promptly to the Board.

This announcement marks a significant administrative step in strengthening the leadership within the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) under the Ministry of Finance.
