The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued a notification introducing three new Standard Input Output Norms (SIONs) for export products falling under the Chemical and Allied Products category.

The notification aims to streamline the import of essential inputs used in the manufacture of these export products. This move comes under the authority granted by paragraph 1.03 of the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, which empowers the DGFT to fix such norms from time to time.

As per the notification, the first newly added SION (A-3687) relates to the export of Azithromycin Dihydrate, where 1 kg of the export product corresponds to the import of 0.9434 kg of Azithromycin Amine. The second entry, SION A-3688, covers the export of Aldehyde C10 (Capric Aldehyde), allowing the import of 1.40 kg of Fatty Alcohol C10 (with 98% purity) for every 1 kg of the export product. The third SION, A-3689, pertains to the export of 1000 mg of Ceftazidime Powder used in the formulation of injectable solutions, for which 1280 mg of sterile Ceftazidime for Injection Bulk is permitted for import.

The DGFT stated that these new SIONs will provide clarity and facilitate exporters in claiming duty-free imports of raw materials under Advance Authorisation. This is expected to reduce manufacturing costs, ensure smoother procurement processes, and enhance the global competitiveness of Indian pharmaceutical and chemical exporters.
