Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced a significant hike in the monthly remuneration of law researchers working with the Delhi High Court. Their stipend has been increased from ₹65,000 to ₹80,000 per month.
The announcement was made by the Chief Minister during an event held at the Delhi High Court. Gupta said the move reflects the government’s recognition of the crucial role played by law researchers in assisting judges with case law, research, and drafting.
“This step will not only acknowledge their contribution but also encourage more talented young legal professionals to work with the judiciary,” she stated.
Law researchers, often young advocates or fresh graduates from law schools, assist judges by providing in-depth legal research, drafting briefs, and analyzing complex cases. The increase in remuneration is expected to enhance the quality of judicial support services and make the position more attractive to meritorious candidates.
The decision has been welcomed by members of the legal fraternity, who view it as a long-awaited acknowledgment of the intellectual contribution of researchers in the judicial process.
