The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), under the Ministry of Finance, has issued Notification No. 12/2025-CUSTOMS (N.T.), dated February 28, 2025, announcing revised tariff values for key imported commodities namely crude and refined edible oils, brass scrap, gold, silver, and areca nuts.

The changes, effective from March 1, 2025, impact crude and refined edible oils, brass scrap, gold, silver, and areca nuts.

As per the notification, the updated tariff values are as follows: Crude Palm Oil is set at $1,173 per metric ton, RBD Palm Oil at $1,189 per metric ton, and other Palm Oil varieties at $1,181 per metric ton. Crude Palmolein is valued at $1,200 per metric ton, RBD Palmolein at $1,203 per metric ton, and other Palmolein varieties at $1,202 per metric ton. Crude Soybean Oil is priced at $1,112 per metric ton, while Brass Scrap (all grades) is set at $5,511 per metric ton.

For precious metals, Gold (under specific conditions) is valued at $927 per 10 grams, while Silver (under specific conditions) is priced at $1,025 per kilogram. Other silver forms and Gold Bars, Coins, and Findings also follow the same rates. The tariff value for Areca Nuts remains unchanged at $8,140 per metric ton.

The notification has been issued under the authority of the Customs Act, 1962, replacing previous tariff tables outlined in Notification No. 36/2001-Customs (N.T.), dated August 3, 2001. The last amendment to this notification was made through Notification No. 10/2025-Customs (N.T.), dated February 14, 2025.

The updated tariff values are expected to influence the import cost of key commodities, impacting both businesses and consumers. The revision aims to reflect prevailing market conditions and ensure a balanced trade policy. For further details, stakeholders are advised to refer to the official gazette notification or contact the CBIC for clarifications.
