The order has been issued pursuant to the Board’s earlier directive and based on the recommendations of a high-level committee comprising senior officials from GST & Central Excise and Customs formations across Chennai and Tiruchirappalli zones. The restructuring aims to streamline administrative functioning and ensure optimal deployment of officers across the Chennai Customs Zone and the Customs (Preventive) Zone in Tiruchirappalli.

According to the official directive, all officers must be relieved immediately and are required to join their new postings on or before April 18, 2026. The department has made it clear that no representations regarding transfers will be entertained before officers assume charge at their new place of posting. A compliance report is to be submitted by April 30, 2026.

The order also includes a special provision for officers engaged in election-related duties. Such officers will be relieved only after the completion of the election process, ensuring adherence to the Model Code of Conduct. Additionally, all pending representations regarding postings have been formally disposed of with this order.

The reshuffle reflects continued efforts by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) to strengthen administrative efficiency and maintain operational balance across key customs jurisdictions in the southern region.
