The 57th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax Council has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 8, 2026, with proceedings set to begin at 11:00 AM at the Summit Room, Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The GST Council Secretariat announced the revised schedule through an Office Memorandum dated October 5, 2026. The communication cites “unavoidable circumstances” as the reason for the change, without providing further details.

The meeting was previously scheduled for October 7, making the latest revision a postponement of one day. The change has also been reported in contemporaneous news coverage.

Secretariat Issues Revised Meeting Schedule

The Office Memorandum bears File No. 1392/57th GSTCM/GSTC/2026 and refers to an earlier communication dated September 6, 2026 concerning the meeting.

According to the attached memorandum, the Council will now assemble on October 8 at Bharat Mandapam. The communication specifies the revised date, commencement time and meeting room, providing members with the updated arrangements.

The Secretariat has requested that the change be brought to the attention of the members of the GST Council. It has also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the rescheduling.

Communication Issued With Revenue Secretary’s Approval

The memorandum states that it has been issued with the approval of the Revenue Secretary, who serves as the ex-officio Secretary to the GST Council.

The document is digitally signed by Shaifali G. Singh, Commissioner, GST Council Secretariat. The digital signature records October 5, 2026, at 6:35 PM as the signing time.

Memorandum Does Not Specify Agenda Or Policy Decisions

The attached communication is confined to the revised meeting arrangements. It does not set out the agenda, identify proposals for consideration or announce any decision relating to GST rates, input tax credit, registration, refunds or compliance requirements.

Accordingly, the memorandum establishes the new meeting schedule but provides no basis for treating any anticipated reform as an approved Council decision. Details of the deliberations and recommendations will depend on subsequent official communications.

The immediate development is that the 57th GST Council meeting will take place on October 8, 2026, from 11:00 AM onwards at the Summit Room, Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
