The Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch (SIIB) of Chennai Customs (Port) has seized five containers carrying misdeclared goods worth approximately Rs. 7.5 crore. The seized consignment included toy drones, footwear, handheld fans, trimmers, and toys. The importers had falsely declared the cargo as personal items and accessories to evade regulatory scrutiny.

Toy drones are prohibited from import under Indian regulations, while toys and footwear require Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) verification. The misdeclaration was an apparent attempt to bypass these legal requirements.

Customs officials acted on specific intelligence and intercepted the shipment upon arrival. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the consignment contained restricted and non-compliant goods, violating multiple import regulations. The authorities have initiated further investigation into the consignees and the supply chain to determine any potential fraudulent practices.

Stringent action will be taken against the importers for violating customs and regulatory norms, as per the applicable laws. Chennai Customs has reiterated its commitment to curbing illegal imports and protecting consumer interests by ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.

Further developments in the case are awaited as the investigation continues.
