The Customs Department at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport(CSMI Airport) has destroyed a massive quantity of seized drugs during the financial year 2025–26. According to official sources, a total of 1,010.842 kilograms of narcotic and psychotropic substances, valued at approximately ₹1,079 crore, were disposed of by the Mumbai Customs Zone-III.

The destruction drive culminated on March 27, 2026, when the final consignment of 376.552 kilograms of seized narcotics was safely disposed of. Authorities confirmed that the entire process was carried out in strict compliance with legal mandates and environmental safety protocols, ensuring secure and responsible handling of hazardous substances.

Officials emphasized that the systematic destruction of seized drugs is a critical step in preventing the re-circulation of illicit substances into society. By eliminating these drugs permanently, the department aims to dismantle supply chains and deter trafficking networks operating across borders.

The initiative also reflects the unwavering commitment of the Customs Department towards strengthening India’s anti-drug enforcement framework. The operation aligns with the Government of India’s flagship campaign, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which seeks to eradicate drug abuse and promote a drug-free society across the country.

Customs officials reiterated that such large-scale disposal exercises will continue to be conducted regularly, as part of a broader strategy to combat drug trafficking and safeguard public health. The department has also been enhancing surveillance, intelligence gathering, and inter-agency coordination to curb the menace of narcotics smuggling more effectively.

This latest achievement highlights the proactive enforcement measures undertaken by Mumbai Customs and underscores their resolve to contribute to a safer and drug-free India.
