In a major drug bust, the Customs Department at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has seized nearly 25 kilograms of marijuana valued at around Rs. 25 crore from a passenger arriving from Bangkok.

According to officials, the seizure was made on August 21 at Terminal 3 of IGI Airport. The accused, identified only as “one Indian national,” had traveled from Bangkok via Singapore. On arrival, he was intercepted by customs officers while attempting to pass through the green channel.

During routine screening, his baggage was subjected to x-ray checks and manual examination. Officials discovered 25 black polythene packets hidden inside a blue and dark grey trolley bag. The packets contained a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana, weighing 24,814 grams in total.

A diagnostic test confirmed the substance to be ganja/marijuana. The consignment was estimated to be worth approximately ₹24.8 crore in the illicit market.

The passenger was immediately placed under arrest, and the narcotics were seized. Authorities have withheld the identity of the accused citing ongoing inquiries.

Customs officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace the source and possible links to an international drug trafficking network.
