In a major crackdown on gold smuggling, the Customs units at Kannur and Calicut International Airports have seized 1,791.42 grams of gold, estimated to be worth ₹1.5 crore. The smuggled gold was found in various forms, including circular sheets, a gold lump, a gold ring, a gold chain, and capsules concealed inside the clothing and bodies of two passengers.

The seizures were carried out by the Customs Commissionerate (Preventive), Cochin (CCP Cochin) as part of their intensified surveillance against gold smuggling networks. The two individuals involved in the smuggling attempt have been intercepted, and further investigations are underway to trace the syndicate behind the operation.

Authorities continue to maintain heightened vigilance at airports across Kerala to curb illegal gold imports. This seizure highlights the evolving tactics employed by smugglers and the proactive measures taken by Customs officials to counteract such illicit activities.
