Receiver Also Nabbed; Further Investigation Underway

In a significant bust, Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Terminal 3, New Delhi, thwarted an attempt to smuggle gold worth over Rs. 1.34 crore during a routine profiling operation on July 3, 2025.

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) booked an Indian male passenger who had arrived from Sharjah on Flight G9-465. A thorough examination of his baggage and personal search led to the recovery of two white plastic pouches filled with a yellow-colored paste suspected to contain gold.

Upon interrogation, officers were able to intercept another individual believed to be the receiver of the smuggled gold. The yellow paste was processed, yielding two rectangular gold bars and one uneven-shaped bar, collectively weighing 1,484.5 grams. The total tariff value of the seized gold is estimated at ₹1,34,87,395.

Officials confirmed that the recovered substance is undergoing further testing to confirm its composition. Authorities are also probing possible violations under the Customs Act, 1962.

The case highlights the persistent efforts of Customs to combat gold smuggling through international entry points, with continued vigilance and targeted profiling strategies.

Further updates are awaited as investigations progress.
