The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Delhi Customs at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has intercepted two Indian passengers arriving from Bangkok and seized 7,213 grams of a green-coloured narcotic substance suspected to be ganja or marijuana. The seizure, valued at approximately ₹7.21 crore, was made on October 21, 2025, following a detailed baggage examination.

According to Delhi Customs (Airport & General), the passengers arrived at Terminal-3 on flight AI-2303 from Bangkok. Based on spot profiling, they were diverted to the green channel for an X-ray scan of their baggage. During inspection, officers discovered four polythene pouches containing a green-coloured substance concealed in a grey and sky-blue trolley bag.

Preliminary diagnostic tests confirmed the substance to be suspected ganja/marijuana. Customs officials booked the case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, citing violations under Sections 8, 20, 23, and 29.

Both passengers were placed under arrest under Section 43(b) of the NDPS Act at around 1:45 p.m. on October 21, 2025. The narcotic substance, along with the concealment materials and packaging, has been seized under Section 43(a) of the Act.

A Customs spokesperson confirmed that “further investigation into the smuggling network and source of procurement is currently underway.”

This seizure adds to a growing number of narcotics smuggling cases detected by Customs at Indian airports, underscoring the vigilance of enforcement agencies against drug trafficking through international routes.
