The Ahmedabad Customs Department has paid tribute to its highly respected sniffer dog “Hooty,” who served the department with exceptional dedication from 2013 to 2022 and played a crucial role in combating narcotics smuggling across the region.

During nearly a decade of service, Hooty became an integral part of several anti-smuggling operations and was instrumental in detecting more than 500 narcotics-related cases. Officials recalled that the canine’s sharp instincts, discipline, and unwavering commitment significantly strengthened enforcement efforts against illegal drug trafficking.

Hooty was part of the Customs canine squad trained to identify concealed narcotic substances at airports, cargo terminals, and other sensitive checkpoints. Over the years, the dog earned admiration from officers and staff for consistently assisting in successful seizures and helping authorities intercept contraband before it could enter illegal distribution networks.

Customs officials described Hooty as not just a working dog but a valued member of the enforcement team whose service contributed immensely to national security and public safety. Many officers who worked closely with the canine remembered Hooty’s alertness, loyalty, and calm temperament during operations.

The department stated that Hooty’s contribution to the fight against drug smuggling would always be remembered with pride and gratitude. Messages of condolence and respect poured in from officials and well-wishers after news of the canine’s passing was shared.

“Hooty’s remarkable service and dedication to duty leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire enforcement personnel,” an official said while paying tribute.

The Ahmedabad Customs Department honoured the canine officer for years of loyal service, remembering Hooty as a silent warrior in India’s ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking.
