The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs at Indira Gandhi International Airport has seized 34.935 kilograms of suspected hydroponic weed (ganja/marijuana) from two passengers arriving from Bangkok and arrested both accused under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
According to Customs authorities, the operation was carried out on May 8, 2026, after the passengers arrived in Delhi from Bangkok on Flight No. TG-323. Acting on the basis of APIS profiling, Customs officers intercepted the passengers after they crossed the Customs Green Channel at the airport.
During X-ray screening of the baggage, officers noticed suspicious images. A detailed examination of the baggage allegedly led to the recovery of 31 vacuum-sealed packets containing suspected hydroponic weed. The total gross weight of the recovered contraband, including packaging material, was found to be 34,935 grams.
Customs officials stated that the seized substance prima facie appeared to be ganja/marijuana. The estimated market value of the seized contraband has been pegged at approximately ₹34.935 crore.
The authorities stated that the alleged act amounts to violation of Section 8 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The accused passengers have been booked for offences punishable under Sections 20, 23, and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The contraband along with the packaging material was seized under Section 43(a) of the NDPS Act, while both passengers were arrested on May 8, 2026 under Section 43(b) of the Act.
The seizure highlights the continuing efforts of Customs authorities at Delhi airport to curb international narcotics smuggling through passenger routes, particularly involving high-value hydroponic cannabis consignments arriving from foreign destinations.
