Ananda Satpathy Appointed as Technical Member (State) in GSTAT for Odisha Bench

The President has appointed Ananda Satpathy, a retired officer of the Odisha Finance Service, to the post of Technical Member (State) in the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT). His appointment is for the bench located in Cuttack, Odisha.

According to the official order issued by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, Shri Satpathy will draw a fixed salary of Rs. 2,25,000 per month. His tenure will last for four years from the date he assumes charge or until he attains the age of 67 years, whichever is earlier. The appointment has been made in accordance with the provisions of the GSTAT (Appointment and Conditions of Service of President and Members) Rules, 2023 and the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, 2017, as amended.

The order further directs Shri Satpathy to take charge of the post at the Principal Bench of GSTAT in New Delhi on or after September 1, 2025, within a period of four weeks. He is also required to submit a medical fitness certificate from the appropriate authority of the concerned state.

The appointment of Technical Members (State) plays a crucial role in strengthening the dispute resolution mechanism under GST by ensuring representation of state-level expertise in the appellate tribunal. With Shri Satpathy’s appointment, the government aims to expedite pending cases and improve efficiency in the adjudication of tax-related disputes.
