52 Judicial Members Appointed to GSTAT

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Department of Personnel & Training Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet under the Ministry of Finance has notified the appointment of 52 Judicial Members to various State Benches of GSTAT across the country. 

High Court Judge Appointed as Principal Judicial Member, GSTAT

Justice (Retd.) Mayank Kumar Jain, who previously served as a Judge of the High Court of Allahabad, has been appointed as the Judicial Member (Principal Bench), GSTAT, New Delhi. He will serve for a period of four years with a fixed salary of ₹2,25,000 per month or until he attains the age of 67 years, whichever is earlier.

State-Level Judicial Member Appointments

The Ministry has also appointed 52 Judicial Members to various State Benches of GSTAT at the same monthly pay scale of ₹2,25,000. These appointees come from a diverse pool of retired judges, practicing advocates, and former tribunal members, bringing a wealth of judicial and legal experience to the GST appellate system.

The appointments span across individuals from various judicial services and states, such as:

  • Ajai Kumar Srivastava, Retired District Judge
  • Bhaskar Reddy Vemireddy, Designated Senior Advocate, Telangana High Court
  • Atul Madhukar Kurhekar, Retired Judge and Former Secretary General, Supreme Court of India
  • Gunvantlal Manchanddas Patel, Member (President Incharge), Gujarat Value Added Tax Tribunal, Ahmedabad
  • H.G. Nagarathna, Presiding Officer, Industrial Tribunal, Bengaluru
  • P. Dinesha, Practicing Advocate and Member (Judicial), CESTAT
  • Ramesh Nair, Member (Judicial), CESTAT, Ahmedabad
  • Justice (Retd.) Roopesh Chandra Varshney, Retired Judge, MP High Court
  • Shailaja Shashikant Sawant, Judicial Member, Maharashtra Sales Tax Tribunal
