In a move aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in the faceless assessment and appeals process, the Income Tax Department has introduced a key update to its e-filing portal. The latest feature allows taxpayers to see when their submissions have been reviewed by tax authorities.

Under the new system, the portal now displays a clear timestamp indicating when the Assessing Officer (AO) or the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) [CIT(A)] has viewed a taxpayer’s response.

“Response viewed by AO on: [Date]” — This new indicator provides definitive confirmation that the taxpayer’s submitted documents have been accessed by the concerned officer.

The enhancement eliminates ambiguity about the status of submissions and gives taxpayers greater visibility into the progress of their cases.
