In a significant step towards enhancing tax administration and improving taxpayer services in the North-East region, Surjit Bhujabal, Special Secretary to the Government of India and Member of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), inaugurated the newly constructed GST Bhawan at Itanagar on May 3, 2026.

The inauguration marks a key milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework in remote and developing regions. The new GST Bhawan is expected to provide a modern, integrated infrastructure to facilitate efficient tax administration, better coordination among departments, and improved service delivery to taxpayers.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Kul Prakash Singh, Chief Commissioner of the North Eastern Region (NER) Zone, along with the Commissioner of CGST Itanagar and the Commissioner of SGST. Their presence underscored the importance of the initiative in reinforcing the administrative framework of GST in the region.

Addressing the gathering, officials emphasized that the establishment of the GST Bhawan would not only streamline tax processes but also enhance accessibility for taxpayers, particularly in geographically challenging areas like Arunachal Pradesh. The facility is expected to serve as a hub for taxpayer assistance, grievance redressal, and administrative coordination.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from local taxpayers, professionals, and stakeholders, reflecting a growing engagement with the GST system in the North-East. The interaction between officials and stakeholders highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering a transparent, responsive, and taxpayer-friendly ecosystem.

With the launch of the GST Bhawan at Itanagar, the CBIC continues its push towards modernizing tax infrastructure and ensuring that the benefits of GST administration reach every corner of the country, including the farthest regions of the North-East.
