In a compassionate gesture of solidarity with the victims of the devastating landslides in Wayanad, Shri S.K. Rahman, Chief Commissioner of the Zone, handed over a cheque of ₹23 lakhs to Shri Suhas IAS, Special Officer overseeing the Wayanad Township Project.

“In the disaster relief fund of the Thiruvanathapuram Zone Rs. 23 lakhs was lying for a long time without  utilisation. It was a voluntary contribution of all officers. The Board’s directions  are that the  disaster fund shall be utilised for any disasters in the zone. Hence we have contributed to Wayanad for construction of solar street lights in the housing project taken up by State Government for the people who lost their homes,” Chief Commissioner S.K. Rahman told JurisHour.

The financial contribution, made on behalf of all staff members of the department, underscores their collective commitment to aiding the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the region. The amount will be directed towards the Wayanad Township Project — an initiative aimed at rebuilding lives, providing safe housing, and restoring basic infrastructure for affected families.

Speaking at the event, Shri S.K. Rahman expressed heartfelt condolences to the families who have suffered losses due to the landslides and emphasized the department’s resolve to stand by the people of Wayanad in their hour of need.

“We are not just offering financial support; this is a symbol of our shared grief and our promise to help Wayanad rise again,” he said.

Shri Suhas IAS, while accepting the cheque, thanked the department for their timely support and assured that the funds would be judiciously used to accelerate rehabilitation efforts.

The Wayanad Township Project has become a beacon of hope for hundreds of families displaced by the recent natural calamities. With the generous contribution from the Zone, the project receives a much-needed boost to continue its mission of rebuilding a resilient community.
