The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the approval of credit transfer and course mapping for select programmes with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

The move follows the recommendations made by the Academic Council’s Standing Committee in its 65th meeting held on 17th January 2025. The Council endorsed the mapping of ICAI courses with IGNOU’s BCOMG, BCOMGOL, BCOMF, BCOMFOL, MCOM, and MCOMOL programmes. These recommendations were subsequently ratified during the 83rd meeting of the Academic Council on 18th February 2025.

According to the notification, students can now claim credit transfers or exemptions for ICAI courses under IGNOU’s Credit Transfer Policy. The policy allows credit transfer for a course passed from ICAI only once, and the validity of the transferred credits is capped at 7 years.

Importantly, IGNOU has waived the fee for credit transfer and course change under this specific arrangement. However, students are required to pay a one-time, non-refundable processing fee—₹500 for up to 16 credits and ₹1000 for more than 16 credits.

The detailed course mapping and guidelines are included in the official annexures (Annexure 1, 2, & 3), which have been circulated for institutional reference.

This initiative is expected to streamline the academic pathway for students pursuing both IGNOU and ICAI qualifications, fostering greater flexibility and academic mobility.

Distribution and Implementation

The notification has been widely disseminated across IGNOU’s regional directors, school heads, and departments. The Director (CD) has also been instructed to upload the notification on IGNOU’s official website to ensure public access.

For further details and the credit mapping documents, students and stakeholders are advised to refer to IGNOU’s website or contact their regional centres.
