Bribery Allegations in Bail Cases: Delhi Special Judge Transferred

A special judge in Delhi has been transferred after the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) raised serious allegations involving bribery in exchange for granting bail. The judge, who previously handled cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Rouse Avenue Court, is now under scrutiny for allegedly facilitating bail orders in return for large sums of money.

Bribery Complaints Trigger Investigation

The issue came to light in January 2025, when the ACB received multiple complaints from families of accused individuals. The complainants alleged that the judge, along with a court staffer, sought bribes ranging from ₹15 lakh to ₹1 crore for favorable bail decisions.

The Delhi High Court was alerted and initially reviewed the matter. Although the court found the available material insufficient for disciplinary action at the time, it authorized the ACB to continue investigating.

FIR Filed Against Court Clerk

Following further inquiries, the ACB lodged an FIR on May 16, 2025 against the concerned court reader (clerk) under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The FIR references a communication made by the Delhi High Court that paved the way for deeper investigation.

Judge Transferred Shortly After FIR

Just four days after the FIR, the Delhi High Court transferred the judge on May 20, raising questions about administrative action taken in response to the bribery allegations. While the court has not cited the bribery accusations as the reason for the transfer, the timing has drawn significant public and media attention.

Investigation Ongoing, No Charges Yet

As of now, no charges have been officially framed against the judge, and the case is still under investigation. The ACB is reportedly examining call records, digital communications, and witness statements to establish the full scope of the alleged misconduct.
