The family of Deepika, a young woman who died under mysterious circumstances after allegedly falling from a building, has raised serious allegations of foul play and accused her in-laws of subjecting her to prolonged harassment after marriage.

On Monday night, Deepika’s father told PTI that the injuries found on his daughter’s body did not appear consistent with injuries normally caused by a fall from a height. He alleged that several marks on the body resembled wounds inflicted with a screwdriver or another sharp object, raising suspicion that she may have been assaulted before or after the fall.

The victim’s aunt, Geeta Devi, also questioned the circumstances surrounding the death and alleged that Deepika had been deliberately pushed from the building. She further claimed that when Deepika survived the fall initially, she was either stabbed or shot afterwards.

Family members alleged that Deepika had been facing continuous mental and physical harassment at her matrimonial home within months of her marriage in December 2024. According to the family, she had repeatedly suffered abuse and pressure from her in-laws, and her death was the culmination of sustained cruelty.

The allegations have intensified demands for a thorough investigation into the incident. Police officials stated that videography of the postmortem examination had been conducted to ensure transparency in the probe. Authorities added that further penal provisions would be invoked depending upon the findings of the forensic examination and the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are currently awaiting the postmortem and forensic reports, which are expected to play a crucial role in determining the exact cause of death and whether the woman’s injuries were caused before or after the alleged fall.
