Taxpayers across the country have been facing difficulties while filing GSTR-1 returns on the GST portal, particularly in cases where the relevant month is not reflecting correctly. In response to the growing concerns, GSTN has issued a clarification through its official communication channel, advising users to report such issues through the GITA chatbot.

According to the update, users encountering problems during GSTR-1 online filing can log a ticket by selecting the “Raise a Ticket” option available on the GST self-service portal. Taxpayers are specifically instructed to choose the category “GSTR-1 – Online Filing” and the sub-category “Month Not Reflecting” to ensure proper classification and quicker resolution of their grievances.

GSTN has also stated that additional resources have been deployed to handle the increased volume of such complaints, indicating that the issue is being actively monitored and addressed at the system level. This move comes amid widespread user complaints regarding glitches and delays in return filing functionalities on the portal.

However, the advisory has drawn criticism from taxpayers and professionals on social media platforms. Several users expressed frustration over being asked to raise tickets for what they believe to be systemic issues with the portal itself. Comments highlighted concerns about inefficiencies in grievance handling and questioned whether the burden of resolving technical glitches should fall on users.

The development underscores ongoing challenges with the GST portal’s functionality, particularly during peak compliance periods. While GSTN’s direction to use the GITA chatbot aims to streamline issue reporting, the response from the taxpayer community suggests a need for more proactive system fixes and real-time resolution mechanisms.

Tax professionals have emphasized that such recurring technical disruptions not only affect compliance timelines but also increase the administrative burden on businesses. With GST compliance being largely technology-driven, the reliability and responsiveness of the portal remain critical to ensuring smooth tax administration.
