CA Prasanna Kumar D has been elected as the 74th President of ICAI, succeeding CA Charanjot Singh Nanda, who led the institute in the previous term. ICAI, a statutory body established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, is responsible for regulating and developing the chartered accountancy profession in India.

A Fellow Member of ICAI and a qualified Chartered Accountant since 1984, Prasanna Kumar D brings over four decades of professional and institutional experience to the role. His association with ICAI spans multiple levels—branch, regional, and central.

He served as Chairman of the Visakhapatnam Branch during 2001–02 and later as a member of the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) from 2007 to 2016. During his tenure at SIRC, he held the position of Chairman in 2013–14. He has also completed two consecutive terms as a member of the Central Council and continues to serve on the 26th Council.

Over the years, he has chaired several key committees within ICAI and has represented the institute on various panels and advisory groups constituted by regulatory authorities and government ministries. These include the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and the Ministry of Finance. In the preceding term of 2025–26, he served as the Vice-President of ICAI before being elevated to the position of President.

CA Mangesh Pandurang Kinare Elected Vice-President

CA Mangesh Pandurang Kinare has been elected as the Vice-President of ICAI for the 2026–27 term. He is currently serving his third term as a member of the Central Council.

A Fellow Member of ICAI and a graduate of the University of Mumbai, Kinare has more than 30 years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, taxation, and corporate governance. His association with ICAI has included significant leadership roles at both regional and central levels.

He previously served as Chairman of the Western India Regional Council (WIRC) during 2013–14. At the central level, he has chaired the Professional Development Committee and the Committee on Public and Government Financial Management. He has also held the position of Vice-Chairman of the Centre of Excellence Directorate.

In addition, Kinare has been a member of the Disciplinary Committee Bench for six years, contributing to the institute’s regulatory and disciplinary framework. He has represented ICAI in various national and international forums and has been nominated to committees constituted by the Government of Maharashtra.

Leadership at a Critical Juncture

The new leadership assumes office at a time when the accounting profession is undergoing rapid transformation driven by technological advancements, regulatory reforms, and increased focus on governance and transparency. As the apex body overseeing more than 3.5 lakh chartered accountants and over 8 lakh students, ICAI plays a pivotal role in shaping financial reporting standards, ethical practices, and professional development in the country.

With extensive institutional experience and prior leadership roles within ICAI, both the President and Vice-President are expected to focus on strengthening professional standards, enhancing global engagement, and advancing capacity-building initiatives for members and students during their tenure.
