The Rajasthan High Court has granted 6 months temporary bail to Asaram Bapu, currently serving a life sentence for the rape of a minor.

The bench of Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Sangeeta Sharma was hearing Asaram’s plea seeking extension of the temporary bail on humanitarian grounds for medical treatment, based on conditions previously set by the Supreme Court.

Asaram, also known as Ashumal, was convicted in 2018 for the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl at his Jodhpur ashram in 2013 and is presently undergoing life imprisonment. Due to his deteriorating health, the Supreme Court had earlier granted him interim bail up to 31 March 2025 exclusively for medical treatment. This was subsequently extended by the Gujarat High Court on 28 March 2025 for an additional three months, owing to the need for ongoing specialized medical supervision.

In related developments, his son Narayan Sai, convicted in 2019 for rape and other offences, was granted five days of temporary bail by the Gujarat High Court in June 2025 to visit his ailing father, marking their first meeting since his incarceration in 2013.

The bail was granted subject to the conditions as set by the Supreme Court.

It is worthwhile to note that it is 8th bail application filed by Asaram Bapu.
