Facing ‘System Failure’ or ‘Schema Validation Failed’ Errors While Filing GSTR-7? Here’s What You Can Do

Taxpayers filing GSTR-7 have reported persistent issues on the GST portal, encountering messages such as “System Failure” or “Schema Validation Failed” while attempting to upload their returns. The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has acknowledged these errors and shared temporary workarounds to help users proceed with filing.

“System Failure” While Uploading Invoice Count

Several taxpayers reported that while entering invoice details, the system returned a System Failure error, preventing further progress.

Solution:
GSTN advises taxpayers to re-enter the invoice with the same GSTIN, Invoice Number, and Invoice Date. Once the details are re-entered, users should click on “Generate Summary” from the dashboard and then proceed to file.

“Schema Validation Failed” During JSON Upload via Offline Tool

Another common error surfaced while uploading JSON files generated using the offline GSTR-7 tool. This error is linked to a technical glitch in the tool’s schema validation process.

Solution:
GSTN has confirmed that its technical team is actively working on resolving the issue in the offline tool. Until the fix is rolled out, taxpayers are advised to file GSTR-7 through the online mode or API integration instead.

Taxpayers facing these issues are encouraged to avoid repeated uploads of the same JSON file or invoices, as it may lead to duplication errors. The GSTN will notify users once the offline utility is updated with a permanent fix.
