Customs at IGI Airport Seize 6.9 kg Marijuana Worth Rs. 6.93 Crore from Passenger Arriving from Tashkent

The Customs at IGI Airport has seized 6.9 kg Marijuana worth Rs. 6.93 Crore from passengers arriving from Tashkent via Istanbul.

The Customs officers of IGI Airport, New Delhi, have booked a case of smuggling of green colour NDPS substance suspected Ganja/Marijuana concealed in five (05) black and transparent coloured polythene packets kept in one Red/Maroon coloured trolley bag. One Indian national arrived from Tashkent to Istanbul by flight no. TK 0367 Y dated 03.10.2025 & Istanbul to Delhi by flight no. TK 0716 Y dated 03.10.2025 at Terminal-3, IGI Airport, New Delhi on 04.10.2025.

On the basis of spot profiling, the pax was diverted at green channel for the x-ray of his personal and baggage search by the customs officers on duty. Subsequently, on examination of the Red/Maroon colour trolley bag carried by the pax, five (05) black and transparent colour polythene packets containing green colour narcotics substance suspected to be ganja/marijuana totally weighing 6939 grams (net weight) was found. When this material was subjected to diagnostic test, prima facie it appeared to be Ganja/Marijuana. The value of said substance is 6.939 crores approx.

In view of the above, it was clear that the pax had violated provisions of Section 8 of the NDPS Act, 1985 and had committed an offence punishable under Section 20, Section 23 and Section 29 of NDPS Act, 1985. Accordingly, the pax has been placed under arrest under Section 43(b) of NDPS Act, 1985 at about 15:30 hrs on 04-10-2025, green colour substance suspected to be Ganja/Marijuana has been seized along with concealing material and packaging under section 43(a) of NDPS Act, 1985.

Further investigation in the matter is under process.
