Certain e-Invoice-related services on the GST portal will remain temporarily unavailable for 28 hours, from 9:00 AM on October 31, 2026, to 1:00 PM on November 1, 2026, due to a scheduled infrastructure upgrade, according to an advisory issued by the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN).

The advisory, dated October 28, 2026, asks taxpayers and other stakeholders to plan their activities around the maintenance window.

Which Services Will Be Affected?

GSTN has identified three services that will be temporarily unavailable on the e-Invoice portal:

  1. Retrieval and processing of e-Invoice data from Invoice Registration Portals (IRPs).
  2. Auto-population of e-Invoice data in GSTR-1.
  3. Downloading of e-Invoice JSON files through the portal and APIs.

The interruption will therefore affect taxpayers seeking to retrieve invoice data, download JSON files or access e-Invoice details auto-populated in GSTR-1 during the scheduled period.

GSTR-1 Auto-Population To Be Temporarily Unavailable

The scheduled maintenance will interrupt the auto-population of e-Invoice data in GSTR-1. Taxpayers carrying out return preparation or invoice reconciliation during the maintenance window should account for this temporary unavailability.

Once services resume, taxpayers should check the availability and completeness of the relevant invoice data before proceeding with reconciliation and return preparation.

Does the Advisory Announce a Halt in e-Invoice Generation?

The advisory specifically lists data retrieval and processing, GSTR-1 auto-population, and JSON downloads as the affected services. It does not announce a suspension of e-Invoice generation or Invoice Reference Number (IRN) generation at IRPs.

The maintenance notice should therefore be read in the context of the three services expressly identified by GSTN.

Taxpayers Advised To Plan Ahead

Businesses, tax professionals and stakeholders relying on portal or API-based JSON downloads should plan any necessary data retrieval before the maintenance begins.

GSTN has stated that the affected services are expected to resume after completion of the infrastructure upgrade. The advisory does not announce any extension of return-filing deadlines or other compliance timelines.

Maintenance window: October 31, 2026, at 9:00 AM to November 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM, IST.
